Widening the Sleeves

Awesome ideas from the Yahoo group, part two:

Hi All,

While I'm at it, if you're considering widening the sleeves, here's
what I would suggest:

Where it says "cont in patt until sleeve measures 12(12, 12.25, 12.25,
12.5, 13)" you should adjust that number and cast on sooner. Since
you'll add half the width at the start of the sleeve, and half at the
end, cast on a half an inch sooner for each inch of sleeve width you
want to increase.

Assuming you don't want to increase the cuff width*, you'll have to
add in a few more short rows to compensate for the extra width.
You're doing this so your cuff stays the same width, and the upper arm
gets wider.

Adding an inch of width:

Do 2 more sets of short rows. Instead of going to Short Row 12,
you'll go up to Short Row 16. (2 more sets of repeating rows 3 and
4). I would also decrease the number of sts between each short row by
1 (this will add more of the width to the upper portion of the arm).

Adding 2 inches of width:

Do 4 more sets of short rows. Instead of going to Short Row 12,
you'll go up to Short Row 20. (4 more sets of repeating rows 3 and
4). I would also decrease the number of sts between each short row by
3 (this will add more of the width to the upper portion of the arm).

After the short rows, it says to work 28 more rows even in patt.
Follow that as is. Your measurement from the fold line to the
shoulder should be the same too (you're not adding length, you're just
starting your sleeve sooner to add width.

When you get to finishing up the short rows along the back of the
sleeve, the instructions say "piece measures about 13.5" from sleeve
CO along division line". Yours will measure whatever the new width
was. So if you're adding an inch, it will measure about 14.5".

I know no one has asked, but it's probably just a matter of time
before someone wants to widen the sleeve. If you do follow these
instructions please let me know if they were helpful, of if you think
I missed something or was unclear.

How do you alter the armscye to accommodate the extra width?

Thanks for the help. I was wondering about the sleeve width & how to alter.
